Women-only Portal Invites Entries for Film Festival

The start up hopes to bring women filmmakers and other artistes to the forefront

QUEEN’S ROAD:  Woman Making Films will organise its first film festival at various cities across the country from September 1 to 15. Entries are invited from women filmmakers from across the world.

Started by Chennai-based filmmaker Vaishnavi Sundar about a month ago, the online portal hopes to bring women directors, cinematographers, editors and other artistes involved in bringing out cinema to the forefront and give them representation.

"Only five per cent of female filmmakers in the world are wellrepresented. And within that, cinematographers, editors, sound designers and others are in a worse position," says Vaishnavi.

By joining the portal, women filmmakers can work towards addressing the gender disparity in the business and create greater opportunities for one another, she explains.

Anyone who identifies as a woman and has to her credit at least one film in which she worked as the head of one of its aspects can register with the portal and submit entries for the film festival. Screenings will be held in Chennai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

After registration, works of the members will be advertised on the website periodically. There is no upper age limit for those who wish to enrol.

The last date for submitting entries for the film festival is August 26. For more information, email contactwmfindia@gmail.com or visit www.wmfindia.com.
