Government Guidelines to Patil Panel on BBMP Division

BENGALURU: The state government has issued a set of guidelines to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) restructuring committee to ensure that  elements like finance and the legal system are put in place before the civic body is divided. The order was passed after going through the committee’s final report submitted in July.

Panel chairman BS Patil said the government does not want to go the Delhi way of municipal trifurcation, which had led to confusions.

The government’s order asks the committee to file its report within six months starting July. However, the order did not reach the committee immediately as the model code of conduct for the BBMP polls was in place.

However, according to Patil, the committee has already taken these factors into consideration by involving institutions like IIM Bangalore and Azim Premji University.

“The government wants to have a proper back-up plan before it goes on with the division of the local body to avoid any confusion,” he said.
