Congress Attack on Adi Misguided?

Contrary to partymen’s claim, sources say site allotment case is pending before Lokayukta Rao

BENGALURU: A case on alleged irregularities in allotment of sites in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Layout in Shivamogga is pending before Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao and not before Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi, as claimed by some Congress MLAs, according to sources in the Lokayukta.

Congress legislators had accused Justice Adi of delay in acting on this case which they said was pending before him. They also cited this as a reason in the petition moved for Justice Adi’s ouster. Sources in the Lokayukta, however, told Express that T M Vasudevarao, Under-Secretary to the government, Urban Development Department, had referred the case to the Lokayukta vide an order on July 17, 2014.

The respondents in this case(No:Compt/Lok/BD/3674/2014/ARE-9) were Commissioner and other officers of Shivamogga Urban Development Authority, Shivamogga. This case pertains to Lokayukta Rao’s jurisdiction and is being enquired by the Assistant Registrar of Enquiries-9 of the anti-corruption body. The next date of hearing is January 6, 2016.

The government appointed retired district and sessions judge H B Ravindranath to look into the alleged irregularities in allotment of sites at the Layout formed by the Shivamogga Urban Development Authority. The findings revealed that over 200 sites were illegally allotted and the issue needed further probe.

However, the government did not accept the findings and referred the matter to the Lokayukta on July 17, 2014.  One D Raju, son of Doddaiah, a resident of Sri Nandini Nilaya, 1st Cross, Pampanagar, Shivamogga, filed a complaint before the anti-corruption body that there was no action on the case referred to the Lokayukta by the government. However, the Lokayukta authorities closed the complaint on December 20, 2014, with an observation that the complainant in this case may have his say in the case pending before Lokayukta.
