Rumours Afloat on Rao's Resignation

BENGALURU:  On Monday, rumours were abuzz that Justice Bhaskar Rao has put down his papers. Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa is likely to write to High Court Chief Justice seeking formation of a committee to look into allegations against the Lokayukta.

Lokayukta in-charge Registrar M S Balakrishna met Governor Vajubhai Vala at Raj Bhavan on Monday afternoon giving further credence to the rumours. Sources said the Registrar is again meeting the Governor on Tuesday morning. Officials at Raj Bhavan and Lokayukta refused to divulge details about Monday’s meeting and Tuesday’s appointment. Justice Rao too refused to confirm or deny the rumours.

“You find out from them,” Justice Rao, who is currently in Hyderabad told Express over phone. He, however, refused to comment on the Assembly admitting a motion seeking his ouster.

While admitting the motion moved by Opposition BJP and JD (S), the Speaker informed the Assembly members he had gathered information on charges made against Justice Rao from the Special Investigations Team officers and consulted legal experts. He will write to the HC Chief Justice seeking formation of a three-member committee.

Currently, Justice Rao is on leave. Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi too is not attending office.

No Info, Says CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said he has no information about Justice Rao’s resignation. “I have not come across any such report nor information about his resignation,” he said.
