Woman Injured in Knife Attack

BENGALURU: A woman was slashed with a knife by a relative for declining to marry him in Vijaynagar police limits on Wednesday night.

Ranga Lakshmi (24), hailing from Hosadurga and a resident of Subbanna Garden, is an employee at a private company. The accused Neelakanta is absconding.

Lakshmi had seperated from her husband, a farmer in Hosadurga, about a year ago, and came to the city to make a living. This was when Neelakanta started to harass her.

On Wednesday, Lakshmi was on her way back from work when she was confronted by Neelakanta, who again asked her to marry him. Lakshmi declined his proposal, and warned him not to repeat it again.

Neelakanta then asked Lakshmi to inform his relatives of her decision, to which she agreed. As they neared the Reliance Mart in Subbanna Garden, Neelakanta took out a knife and slashed Lakshmi’s face repeatedly and fled.

Passersby rushed her to a nearby hospital where doctors said she is out of danger. Vijaynagar police have registered a case.
