Miscreants Set Lorry Seized by BBMP on Fire

BENGALURU: In a suspected act of revenge, a lorry that was seized by BBMP officials was set ablaze by a few miscreants in Beggars’ Colony near Sumanahalli junction on Saturday morning. The incident is said to have happened after BBMP officials seized three lorries that were dumping garbage illegally.

According to the police, the incident happened around 7 am. Fire and Emergency Service personnel were pressed into service and the fire was doused. 

In the mishap, six tyres of the seized lorry were burnt. Kamakshipalya police asked the locals if they had seen the miscreants.

Prior to the incident, BBMP officials had seized three lorries which belonged to  Gangamma Devi transport for dumping garbage illegally at Sumanahalli.

Nagaraju, assistant engineer (civil) of BBMP said, “We have filed a complaint in Kamakshipalya Police Station against Gangamma Devi Transport.”

Nagaraju told Express, “This is the second time we have complained against the transport for dumping garbage illegally. They are not associated with BBMP. We have been receiving complaints from residents that garbage is being illegally dumped.” 

“Health inspectors seized the ten-wheeler tippers which were dumping garbage illegally in the area,” a BBMP official said.

According to the complaint filed by BBMP, “At around 1.30am, the officials received information that three tippers were dumping garbage at Sumanahalli and BBMP health inspectors seized it. The drivers of the tippers fled the spot.”
