BENGALURU: Congress leaders’ allegations against Upa Lokayukta Subhash B Adi are baseless, an official at the Lokayukta office said on Saturday.
MLC and senior congress leader V S Ugrappa had, on Friday, accused Adi of not paying enough attention to a `676-crore scam by disposing of a complaint against the commissioner of the Hubballi-Dharwad City Corporation in 2013 without conducting a proper inquiry.
A judicial officer at the Lokayukta told Express that Ugrappa had made the claims purportedly based on the complaint filed by advocate Mohana Beerappa Maligera, a resident of Hubballi. But according to the official, Maligera did not file any complaint, and just wrote a letter to the Lokayukta, and Upa Lokayuktas S B Majage and Adi on June 18, 2013.
Consequently, Justice Adi is said to have asked the deputy commissioner to submit a report on the allegations made by Maligera. When there was no response, Adi issued another reminder to the deputy commissioner. The deputy commissioner then submitted a report stating that the allegations were not proved.
On June 18, 2014, Adi’s office issued a notice to Maligera asking him to send them the details of the alleged misappropriation. However, Maligera did not respond and the complaint was closed.
“If Maligera was serious about his case, he should have taken it up with the Lokayukta or the other Upa Lokayukta, Justice Majage. But he did not do so. Now, Ugrappa has made baseless allegations against Justice Adi at the behest of Maligera,” a source said.
When contacted, Justice Adi refused to comment on the allegations.
