Realtor Killed in Bus-SUV Collision

BENGALURU: A 31-year-old realtor died on the spot while 12 others were severely injured after a speeding private bus crashed into an SUV on Kanakapura main road near Kaggalipura on Sunday.

Traffic was thrown out of gear for a while on the busy Benglauru-Kanakapura Road after the accident. Kaggalipura police rushed to the spot and cleared the vehicles that were involved in the mishap.

The deceased, Shankar, was a native of Hoskote and was into real estate business in the city. His friends Roopa, Venkataraju, Sunil and Harish, who were in the car, were rushed to a private hospital.

Eight people including Shashank, Shankare Gowda and Kenchamma, who were in the private bus (KA-08-2779) received injuries.

Police said the incident occurred around 4.30 pm at Paladoddi Gate near the Art of Living ashram. Shankar was driving towards the city after visiting Kabbalamma temple near Sathanur.

Meanwhile, a speeding private bus which was heading towards Kanakapura collided with the car. Shankar was killed on the spot.

The bus was hired and the passengers were returning to Kanakapura after attending a wedding in the city. Negligent driving by the bus driver is blamed for the mishap and in a bid of overtaking a vehicle he rammed in to the car from the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was such that a crane was used to separate both the vehicles.

The condition of Venkataraju and Harish is said to be critical while other three injured have been shifted to NIMHANS. Kaggalipura police are looking out for the driver who fled the scene after the incident.
