BENGALURU: A 71-year-old woman died after falling into the well of an under-construction lift in her apartment in Kanakanagar on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased Malini Srivatsa was a resident of Ishwari Enclave. She was living with her son Hemendra, a software engineer. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when Malini was taking her grandson to the apartment playground. She is said to have slipped while walking down the stairs.
Neighbours took Malini to a hospital. The investigating officer said, “The apartment block houses about 500-600 families. There are other lifts in the block but work on this additional lift had been going on for a while.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) T R Suresh said, “We have asked for the building documents and are looking for the owner. The accident could have been avoided had the building owner or the workers ensured adequate protection around the lift. We have booked the owner for negligence.”
