Unite, You Have Nothing to Lose but Your Weight

BENGALURU: This group has more than 17,000 followers, from across the world, on Facebook.

Nayana Tambe Ekbote started ‘Weightloss MoB’ - for Mothers of Bangalore - in 2014, to stay motivated with weight loss. It has proved helpful to many others over time.

”The group members aim to stay fit the healthy way, by sharing useful tips and information. All of us workout individually without help from any trainer,” informs Nayana Tambe.

Ask Nayana about the success rate of the weight-loss programme followed by the group members and she says, “Some of our group members have lost up to 30 kg and a few in the range of 15-20 kg. The group members can workout wherever is convenient - home, park or at the gym. “We usually follow YouTube videos on exercises. Beginners start with walks and gradually increase the intensity of workout. We have members who practise yoga, pilates, etc.”

There are exercise schedules for the group, and members usually stick to it. If they don’t, the others nudge them along by tagging them. Nayana says, “The group members get motivated when they see others posting updates on their weight loss or their workout pictures” she says.

The group also follows a diet plan recommended by Rujuta Diwekar. They make sure that they eat home-cooked food and follow portion control.

Pregnancy weight “is something that many women struggle to get rid off,” says Nayana. “It’s tough but not impossible. It’s tough because after a baby is born, our priorities change. We have added responsibility. We focus more on the well-being of the baby.” Here is where the group helps, they keep reminding the mothers of their own well-being and how easy it is -- eat healthy and walk.

Recalling the case of actors like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who was body-shamed as they had put on weight during pregnancy she says, “a women’s body undergoes a lot of changes in those nine months. We should give ourselves equal time to get the body back to its original form.” She lost 11 kg after she started the group.

Anybody willing to join their group can do so by sending request on www.facebook.com/groups/WLMob.
