Drunk Drivers Who Harass Policemen to Face Action

After recent assaults on police by drunk drivers/riders, Bengaluru Traffic Police have decided to take stern action against such riders.

BENGALURU: After recent assaults on police by drunk drivers/riders, Bengaluru Traffic Police have decided to take stern action against such riders by booking cases against them.

Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) M A Saleem said, “Of late, instances of assault and abuse by drunk drivers are increasing.

From January 1, we will start booking cases against people who misbehave with or assault police officials.” A police official said, “Over 70 cases were reported where police officials were assaulted while conducting drives against drunken driving in the night time, especially on weekends.”

“In cases of abuse or distracting police from doing their duty, we will start booking cases under IPC Section 353. If any civilian tries to or assaults police officials, we will book cases under IPC 332 where they will face a prison term of up to three years, fine or both,” said police.
