BBMP, Govt Get Notice Over Ads

BENGALURU:  The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the state government on public interest litigation seeking a CBI probe into revenue loss due to unauthorised hoardings and flexes.

A vacation bench issued the notice after hearing the petition filed by Sai Datta, a social activist. Datta said BBMP is not taking any action against illegal hoardings despite having power under Section 137 of the KMC Act.

The local body is witnessing revenue loss. It is only collecting around Rs 35 crore from 198 wards as advertisement revenue, he said.

Referring to the report submitted by K Mathai, BBMP Assistant Commissioner, he said the local body is losing Rs 2,000 crore revenue due to non-collection of fees from all kinds of advertisements in public places.
