BENGALURU: Special city buses will ply from 10.30 pm to 2 am on New Year’s Eve.The Bengaluru Metropolitan ransport Corporation is extending its services for Thursday’s festivities heralding the new year.
The special buses complement the BMTC’s night service, with regular buses plying according to schedule.
Sanchit R, an engineer who lives near Electronics City, is relieved he won’t be fleeced by auto drivers.
“They charge a lot on occasions like this. These days, even cab aggregators increase their charges arbitrarily,” he said.
The BMTC has added more Big-10 trunk routes, as most revellers throng to the central business district.
The buses will ply from MG Road to Sarjapura, Bannerghatta, Bagaluru and Hoskote.
Eliza Parmeshwar, a student, stays at a paying guest facility in Sarjapura. “It is good to see public transport corporations like the Metro and BMTC taking care of our needs at times like this. It is really difficult to enjoy a party if, at the back of your mind, you are worried about reaching home safe,” she told City Express.
A senior BMTC official said most Big-10 buses are fitted with cameras. “That way, passengers can be monitored and untoward incidents averted,” he said.
Conductors and drivers of these buses have also been instructed to keep an eye out to ensure passenger safety.
