Bengaluru: ‘Internet of Things’, the new buzzword of the technology sector for 2015, is expected to ring in changes in a wide range of sectors.

Explaining the importance of the concept, former UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani said, “Sensor technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) is at the cusp of transforming many sectors — from healthcare to the smart management of cities.”

Speaking on Monday at the inaugural session of the 28th international conference on VLSI design and embedded systems, he said, “This is an opportunity to ‘leapfrog’ on developmental solutions.”

As part of the central theme of the conference ‘Internet of Things: Building a Smart Connected World’, a 60-hour IoT Ideathon was organised. As many as 100 participants worked on creating 25 new applications in IoT. The conference will host 1,000 delegates from around the world and see over 100 research paper presentations.
