BENGALURU: The BJP has demanded the resignation of Home Minister K J George, accusing him of failing miserably in controlling the sexual assaults.
Reacting to the alleged sexual assault on a school girl in Hosaguddadahalli, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar said the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated. Bengaluru is gaining notoriety as a rape city. “The Home Minister has failed miserably in handling the department and he has no moral right to continue in office,” Shettar said.
Failure to ensure speedy investigation and trial has emboldened the culprits to indulge in such heinous acts as they have no fear of law, Shettar said. “The state government has failed on its promise of setting up fast track courts for speedy trial of rape cases. In Bengaluru alone, in the last two years, 289 rape cases have been registered. But, trial is on in only eight cases and conviction has been recorded in just two cases,” he said.
