Anganwadis to Start Indefinite Demo from February 2

BENGALURU: Anganwadi workers from across the State will start an indefinite demonstration from February 2 at various venues, demanding a major hike in their salaries.

H K Ramachandappa, president, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Federation (affiliated to All India Trade Union Congress-AITUC), Karnataka, appealed to the State government to emulate Puducherry and Goa governments  in this regard.

“A worker here is paid just `5,500 a month with the Union government contributing `3,000 of the amount. We are protesting in support of our demand of `15,000 per month,” he said. Goa government pays `15,000 while Puducherry pays `12,500 a month, he added.
