Footpath Cleared of Encroachments

BENGALURU: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike engineers, along with the police, conducted a footpath encroachment removal drive at Pulikeshinagar on Monday. This is the fourth such drive in four months.

Assistant executive engineer Shivalingegowda from Pulikeshinagar told Express that the drive, which took place on Mosque Road and Coles Road in Fraser Town, began at 9.30 am and ended only at 3 pm. “BBMP officials had informed the local police who accompanied them during the drive,” he said. The authorities cleared close to 50 obstructions on these roads.

Shivalingegowda said all the obstructions on the footpath were by vendors. A few commercial establishments had extended their shops onto the footpaths, he said, adding that several small-scale vendors return after some time.

Shivalingegowda said they will take up the drive again on other roads, including Madhav Mudhaliar Street and Nethaji Road, soon.
