BENGALURU:Furore erupted in the BBMP council’s monthly meeting on Thursday as Kacharakanahalli councillor Padmanabha Reddy alleged that civic agency’s officials are taking bribe from those who want to get khata certificates for their sites.
Reddy even went to the extent of getting a khata certificate of a property of BBMP commissioner M Lakshminarayana’s mother Venkatamma in his name for just `5000 to prove ‘the illegal activities of BBMP officials’. He later apologised and said that he committed the deed just to show the how officials can be bribed.
Venkatamma owns around 7,000 sqft of land with four squares of built-up property at Subbayyanapalya in the city. Reddy showed the documents which stated that he managed to pay a property tax of `49,000 for 10 years. He also showed computerised receipts for payment of property tax. Lakshminarayana, said the initial probe has found the officers guilty and that they would be suspended.
