Christ University to Observe Poetry Day Today

HOSUR ROAD: Matte Bantu Shravana and two other collections of poems and short stories will be released on the occasion of the 33rd Kavidina (Poetry Day) at Christ University today. The event, organised by Christ University Kannada Sangha, runs in D R Bendre’s name every year.

“Students from across the state send in two entries each, and the best 20 poems are selected and published in the book. This time, around 80 students took part in the contest,” says M T Rathi, co-ordinator of the Sangha, adding that the numbers have fallen over the years. The best 99 poems written over the past 32 years will be brought out in the form of a book named Mathe Banthu Shravana this year. “These poems were written by former students who are now working as professors, translators and principals,” she said. The Christ University Kannada Sangha has planned to sponsor the trips of the 25 students who are travelling to Bengaluru to receive their prizes. Devanuru Mahadeva will release Mathe Banthu Sravana, while Tarini Subhadayini will review the book, which has been edited by Vikram Visaji. H S Venkatesha Murthy will be the chief guest at the event.
