'Contractors Get Money After Public Audit'

BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) releases money to contractors for civic works only after a public audit, according to BBMP Commissioner Kumar Naik.

He was replying to freedom fighter H S Doreswamy at the launch of the ‘Give Count, Ask vote’ campaign here on Monday.

The campaign, conducted by the Bangalore Development Committee (BDC), aims to seek accounts of money spent by elected representatives, who are contesting again from their wards in the BBMP elections, during their previous term.

Doreswamy complemented the Commissioner and Administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar, saying they are trying to bring many good initiatives.  “But there are officials on deputation who are looting the BBMP. There is a need to bring financial discipline,” he said.

Naik told the campaigners that they were not releasing funds unnecessarily. “We are releasing money only after verifying the work. While clearing bills, the BBMP is taking public opinion. With this, we are trying to bring transparency.”
