BENGALURU: Doctors from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) in Bengaluru on Wednesday confirmed one death due to H1N1 or swine flu.
Dr Sashidhar Bugg, RGICD director, told Express that Sarasvathi (35), a resident of Mysore Road in Bengaluru, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. Earlier, she was in Manipal North Side Hospital. The patient had been suffering from high fever for about two weeks when her condition turned critical.
He said the patient was obese and weighed 90 kg and this was one of the morbid conditions according to doctors treating her. She had also developed viral septicaemia and there was hepatisation (hardening) of her lungs. She was put on ventilation for at least six days and also underwent tracheotomy on Tuesday. She died after her condition worsened on Wednesday morning.
BBMP Yet to Confirm
Dr Vatsala, Chief Health Officer, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, said the civic body is awaiting reports from the hospital for the confirmation.
