Skills Trainer's Career Racing Towards Third Decade

SADASHIVANAGAR:For 28 years, G R Sathya Murthy (55) has been conducting skill-enhancement programmes in the city.

Founder and executive director of Smart Skills Research and Training Foundation in Sadashivanagar, he moved to Bengaluru from Shimoga.

“I was inspired by a school teacher to take up education as a career,” he says.

Sathya Murthy conducted his first training programme in 1986 at Anekal, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

A group of people from different backgrounds predicted the need for enhanced skills in a globalised world, and that set him thinking.

His centre now has more than 100 teachers, and trains students, teachers, and parents, providing information, guidance and opportunities.

Sathya Murthy has conducted workshops all over the state. He is a recipient of the Ravi Rohidekar Award, presented by Justice Shivaraj Patil, former Supreme Court judge.

He says he conducts edu-train-ment programmes, using an acronym for education, training and entertainment.

He conducts Kannada classes for non-Kannadigas, preparatory programmes for those taking exams, and offers counselling at critical junctures (SSLC/PUC/degree).

He also helps parents and teachers understand the needs of students.

Sathya Murthy has conducted skill-enhancement courses for college students, the judicial academy, Karnataka Milk Federation and BMTC. His programmes have been featured on many TV channels as well.

Sathya Murthy makes time for his own education as well: he has three master’s degrees and five post-graduate diplomas. He has written more than 200 journalistic articles, and is the author of 25 booklets on human resource development.

“My ambition now is to start a training and counselling centre of global standards,” he says.
