Gang of 6 Which Targeted Bank Customers Booked Under KOCA

BENGALURU: The North division police have arrested a gang of six men in connection with numerous attention diversion cases reported across the city.

They also recovered Rs 17 lakh cash, gold worth Rs 3 lakh and 20 mobile phones from them.

The accused are P Das (35), Dilli (40), Venkataramana (28), Mohan (34), Balaraj (45) and Ramesh (40). They hail from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh and were residents of Kalkere in Ramamurthy Nagar in the city.

Police said that during interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to go in groups to different areas, visit banks and keep a watch on people.

Whenever they saw someone withdraw huge sums, they would follow them for some distance. Then, they would drop gold or silver coins or new Rs 10 notes to divert their attention and escape with the cash bag.

On April 10, the gang had made away with Rs 14 lakh after breaking a car window in HMT Layout in Vidyaranyapura, a senior police officer said.

City Police Commissioner M N Reddi said, “After learning about the gang’s activities, we have decided to book the accused under the Karnataka Organised Crime (prevention) Act (KOCA).
