KSRTC Hikes Concessional Bus Pass Rates by 4 to 32 per cent

BENGALURU: The KSRTC has hiked its rates for the monthly bus passes.

Earlier, it gave a flat concessional bus pass for each of its services.  Rajender Kumar Kataria, KSRTC MD, said, “Earlier the value of the concession was not decided based on particular fare calculations. The corporation faced a lot of trouble in fixing the rates, but now we have rationalised it and it is more user-friendly.”

The officials found that on an average, people use passes for 8-10 round trips of various services. Many, however, cribbed if the concession was based on the highest-paid service. Many passengers also protested whenever the rate of the bus pass was revised. This also was not going down well with passengers using the service for less numbers of round trips.

As per the new rates, KSRTC has bifurcated the bus pass into two categories based on the fare of ordinary bus services and express bus services.

The fare has been hiked around 4-7 per cent for passengers taking round trips for two or more stages for the ordinary service and around 7-32 per cent for passengers taking round trips for two or more stages for the express bus service.

Kataria added, “Passengers paying for a higher service will be allowed to use a low priced service as well, but passengers getting concessional pass for a low priced service will not be allowed to use the higher one.”
