BENGALURU: Hajee Sir Ismail Sait (HSIS) Gosha Hospital in Shivajinagar, among the city’s oldest government hospitals, has been handed over to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.
Bowring Hospital took over Gosha a couple of days ago. This came after the government’s announcement, earlier this year, that the former would become the city’s second government medical college hospital, with 150 students.
“We have had meetings with the departments concerned to plan the transition,” Dr K S Manjunath, special officer for the proposed medical college hospital, told City Express.
In the first phase, the Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) and neonatal care from the current Bowring premises will move to that of Gosha, he said.
“The entire Department of Paediatrics will be moved in the second phase, making Gosha a full-fledged mother-and-child hospital,” he added.
Gosha Hospital, with 150 beds, is spread across 3.26 acres. Authorities are also planing to construct a women’s hostel block and staff quarters in its compound.
After the OBG department moves out of what is now the Bowring Hospital campus, a building for the medical college will come up in its place.
Gosha Hospital was revamped a couple of years ago — a block with ICU, neo-natal ICU and other facilities was constructed. Now, it has a nine-bed ICU, an eight-bed post-operative ward and an emergency operation theatre, in addition to a centralised oxygen supply system.
The hospital will soon get cutting-edge ultra sound scanning equipment, foetal monitoring systems and vacuum suction for delivery. Plans for a new emergency operation theatre with modern facilities are also afoot. As part of a medical collage, its staff is to expand to include more experienced, specialised experts.
