BENGALURU: That Comedy Club has created quite a buzz among Bengalureans since its launch last October, with the gang running to full-house shows for 12 weeks now.
How much is it helping encourage comedians in the city? “There’s a show every weekend. There are headliners, hosts and open micers. The club has curated nights with different formats. Young promising comedians are hosting weekend shows, and also appear in our featured show, Now That is Funny,” say founders Sumendra Singh and Adeel K Q.
The club also hosts an open-mic nights on Thursday. This bi-monthly affair lets aspiring comedians test their mettle on the stand-up stage and learn from the best comedians in the business. Participants also have a Q&A session with the headliner who shares tips and best practices.
Those who show promise get an opportunity to perform at the club’s weekend shows, alongside the regulars, and with time, graduate to hosting and eventually bagging a headliner spot. Each spot is for five minutes and participation is on first-come-first-serve basis. (To participate, send a mail on email@example.com)
The club has hosted some of the best stand-up comedians in the country like Kanan Gill, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Daniel Fernandes, Karunesh Talwar, Kenny Sebastian and Anuvab Pal.
This week, the club hosts Best of Amit Tandon and That Comedy Club feat. Karthik Kumar and Neville Shah.
