'It's to keep me sane'

This honest father-of-four is the most hilarious man on Twitter with 74.3K followers

BENGALURU: James Breakwell, considered by some to be the funniest dad on Twitter with Over half a million followers, records his daily conversations with his four daughters, all under the age of six. His Twitter handle is XplodingUnicorn. He lives in Indianapolis.

Breakwell has given the Internet a serious case of giggles, thanks to his honest and hilarious tweets about his lovely daughters. In an exclusive chat with Express, he says that his daughters love the attention, but that could change gradually as they grow.

“They like what I do on Twitter mainly because it’s all about them. Right now, they get jealous if I leave them out. I read my jokes to them when they ask, but the humour often goes over their heads,” he said.

Citing an example of one of his tweets, Breakwell went on to cite what his six-year-old said when he spoke about the re-opening of her school. When Breakwell told his kid that the school would start in a few weeks, his six-year-old kid just told him to say that he was busy for which Breakwell said, “Damn. I didn’t know that was an option.”

He said that he writes whatever is right in front of him and added that if he were a pig farmer he would have written about pigs but as he has four daughters he tweets about parenthood.

“My account would be nothing but bacon jokes if I had to write about pigs,” he said.

Breakwell said that he joined Twitter several years after it had been around and was afraid that he was too late to have followers. “Luckily, people have lower standards than I thought, and slowly followers drifted my way,” he said.

Breakwell who has a regular day job said that his boss and his colleagues do not know about his Twitter fame and added that he would like to keep it a secret as none of his colleagues were on Twitter and added that even though his colleagues see his daughters, pictures on  the Internet, they would never come to know as his daughters are so adorable that they don’t look like him.

Speaking on how he comes up with such viral tweets, Breakwell said “Children say crazy things when they are sleep deprived and angry. It’s amazing they haven’t killed me yet.”

He said that he has some Magic Words which make his kids disappear. Some of his Magic Words are; When I was your age...; Who did this; It is bath time etc.”

When his four-year-old said that she knew why he could not wear skirts, Breakwell never expected the answer when he asked her why? The four-year-old replied “Your legs are ugly.”

He said “If I wasn’t tweeting about the funny parts of parenthood, I’d probably have a mental breakdown. Twitter is cheaper than a therapist,” he said.

This Twitter-famous dad has also come up with a book titled Only Dead on the Inside: A Parent’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse scheduled for release next year with BenBella Books. “It’s a mash-up of a traditional parenting advice book and a zombie survival guide, bringing together two totally unrelated things in a comedy book no one asked for but everyone needs,” he said.
