Every lake in city to have a dedicated officer

BENGALURU: Every lake in the city is set to get a dedicated officer who will be the immediate point of contact for any issues pertaining to lakes.

This was among the decisions taken during a high-level meet held at Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday.

The meeting was called by Chief Secretary Arvind Jadhav to find solutions to the problems that arise during heavy rains.

It was attended by officials from Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

Speaking to Express, Rajkumar Khatri, BDA Commissioner, said, “All the 92 lakes in BDA’s control will have an officer each. The mobile numbers of these dedicated officers will be made public so that people can contact them immediately.”

The 110 lakes under BBMP will also have these officers. The meeting discussed the steps taken to prevent inundation and the engineering interventions possible by various departments.

“The Silk Board and the Madiwala area leading to Agara Lake were identified as areas that are highly prone to inundation,” Khatri said.

A joint inspection of these areas will be undertaken on Thursday by the officials of all the civic agencies.
