BENGALURU:  Three people, including the son of an ex-corporator, who were recently arrested for assaulting a woman dentist and her husband, got bail and were released from jail on Tuesday.

The victims said the police had delayed the arrests in the first place and had not arrested all the accused. The gang was also accused of misbehaving with the dentist’s assistant.

The trio had allegedly barged into a dental clinic in Somasundarpalya in HSR Layout on July 30 and assaulted the 36-year-old dentist, the owner of the clinic, and her husband Sumith.

A senior police officer said that Nithin S Reddy, son of Mala Srinivas Reddy, who is an ex-corporator (BJP), had gone for a check-up at the clinic.

The receptionist asked him to wait as he did not have an appointment. After waiting for 15 minutes, he forced the junior dentist to clean his teeth. When she refused to do so, Reddy allegedly misbehaved with her.

The complainant questioned Reddy’s behaviour and called some of his friends — Madhan K Naidu and Sharath and others — who vandalised the property before attacking the dentist and her husband who tried to stop them.

The dentist and her husband have said that police were reluctant to act against the accused.

Sumith said, “My wife suffered a fracture on her back. Reddy’s father got some politicians in the area to call us and threaten us to withdraw the complaint. We did two days’ work to get the details of the accused and gave photos of Nithin, Naidu and Sharath.”

Four others are still at large.
