BBMP authorities starts removing encroachments

Amidst public opposition, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday along with BMTC, local police and revenue officials started removing encroachments. On the first day, they started removing encroachment at three places.

BENGALURU: Amidst public opposition, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday along with BMTC, local police and revenue officials started removing encroachments. On the first day, they started removing encroachment at three places.

A senior official from BBMP said that they have started their drive at  Avani Sringeri in Arekere ward, Kodichikkahalli and other places in Bommanahalli zone, Kasavanahalli at Mahadevapura zone and also at Tanisandra near Hebbala lake of Yelahanka zone. At present, nine buildings both small and big will be removed at Avni Sringeri.

There was a huge opposition from local. However, the drive has not stopped. While Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy and team visited drive at Bommanahalli. At Kodichikkahalli, authorities will raze eight building and take nine sites that are illegally alloted on storm water drain. It can be recalled that on Wednesday Chief Minister Siddaramiah directed officials not to spare any encroacher. He conducted review meeting after City witnessed flooding last month.

On Thursday,  House Committee to Study Lake Encroachment Chairman KB Kolidwad and team inspected lakes and storm water drains at many places.
