BENGALURU: Traffic was thrown out of gear on the busy Bengaluru-Mysuru highway after a serial accident claimed two lives and left five injured at the Kallagopahalli Gate near Bidadi on Sunday evening.

The deceased are Raju (30) of Mysuru and Yashas (28) of BTM Layout in Bengaluru, and are said to have been employees of a private company.

A senior police officer said the accident occurred around 6.45pm when a Maruti Alto car going towards Mysuru, being driven in a reckless manner, crossed the median and rammed a Maruti Omni van and a bike coming from the opposite direction.

Due to the impact of the crash, the Omni ran into another bike and killed its rider, Raju, on the spot. Yashas, who was travelling in the rear seat of the car, also died in the accident.

Five people, who were on the bike and the Omni, were injured and rushed to a hospital nearby where they are recovering. Shivaraju, who was riding pillion on the bike, is severely injured.

The Bidadi police rushed to spot and cleared the way after towing the vehicles involved in the mishap. Traffic was held up for more than two hours around Ramanagara, Bidadi and Kengeri. Police said the car driver was driving in a reckless manner and caused the accident.
