Jain varsity students build model of INS Vikrant

BENGALURU: Ahead of Independence Day, Jain University has kicked off the fortnight-long celebration, as mandated by the HRD ministry, by building a model of INS Vikrant -- India’s first aircraft carrier and used in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The idea to build the model was conceived by the animation department of the university and it took one month to complete the 22-foot structure.

Speaking about this initiative, Dinesh Damodaran, HoD of Animation Department, said, “Students of the department have come together to build the model of INS Vikrant R11 to showcase the significance of this warship.” The model will be on display from August 13 to August 23.

Professor Somshekhar V K, Visual Arts teacher in the Animation Department, said, “We closely studied the structure and design of the original warship and started with sketching and sectional drawing.”

A number of special activities have been slated for August 15 to mark Independence Day apart from flag hoisting, which includes a video session on INS Vikrant and a 10-minute talk on the historical warship.
