Man shot at in accidental firing to be discharged soon

BENGALURU: Govindappa, a former employee of Indian Space Research Organisation, who sustained a bullet injury on Monday is recovering at a private hospital after surgery. A senior medical officer from Sparsh Hospital said his condition is stable and he may be discharged within a few days.

On Monday afternoon, Govindappa (55) along with his friends had gone to meet Muniraju, a former BJP councillor, at his residence in Dasarahalli near Peenya. Muniraju had kept his weapon on the floor and his two-and-half-year-old grandson picked it up to play. The gun slipped from his hand and the safety lock opened and a bullet fired, hitting Govindappa in the neck.

On Tuesday, Peenya police questioned Muniraju and took his statement. Police said that the boy’s statement was also taken with the help of counselling experts.
