History-sheeter snatches pistol from SI, shoots one

BENGALURU: A 32-year-old history-sheeter and his gang attacked the sub-inspector of Basavanagudi police station and other policemen who had gone to Hanagal in Haveri district to arrest them in a vehicle theft case on Friday.

The prime accused Manjunath allegedly snatched the pistol from the SI and shot an informant. Based on a tip-off, a team headed by Police Sub-Inspector Rajashekhar had gone to arrest Manjunath Yellur alias Manja.

Seven policemen, including the SI, raided a house and surrounded Manja. His associates, who were at the spot, immediately attacked them and Manja who snatched the service pistol from Rajashekhar opened fire and a bullet hit a informant in his leg.
