Robbers target pawnbroker's house, flee with 5 kg gold

BENGALURU: In a dacoity in broad daylight, five men barged into a house in a residential apartment and tied the hands of a woman and silenced her by plastering her mouth before decamping with gold ornaments and cash in KR Puram on Friday.

A senior police officer said the incident took place around 1.45 pm at the residence of Bhundarao and Leeladevi, who run a pawnbroker shop on Devasandra Main Road. Leeladevi was alone when the gang barged into the house. The loot includes nearly 5 kg gold ornaments and `5.3 lakh, police said.

According to the police officer, Bhundarao had gone to TC Palya along with his friend. His wife, who was alone at home, was unwell and came out of her house to vomit. When she was going inside five men pushed her and locked from inside. Then they threatened her with a knife and snatched the almirah keys where the ornaments were kept. Before fleeing from the scene the accused freed Leeladevi, who then came out and raised an alarm.

KR Puram police rushed to the spot along with finger prints experts and dog squad and examined the scene of crime.

Based on preliminary investigation, police suspect an insider’s job in the crime as Bhundarao has employees who work in his shop and one of the employees had not come for work that day.

“We are verifying CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the accused,” said police.
