BENGALURU: Wearing masks of cat, dog, chicken, cow and other animals and holding signs that read ‘HELP US! India: Strengthen Animal-Protection Laws’, several PeTA India supporters gathered on the pavement around Corporation Circle at 3 pm here on Saturday, which was both Animal Rights Day and Human Rights Day.

The objective was to persuade the Centre to strengthen animal protection laws and point out that the penalties for cruelty under the nearly six-decade old current law ‘are woefully weak and have little or no deterrent effect on animal abusers.’
