IISc director, two faculty members booked for atrocity on ex-professor in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Sadashivanagar police on Sunday filed a case of atrocity against the director of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and two faculty members based on a court order.

The police said that the complainant Sanna Durgappa, who was working as a professor in IISc had approached the court a year ago, alleging harassment and atrocity by the director and the faculty members.

“Based on court order, the case has been filed against the director Anurag Kumar and faculty members Rajarajan and Chanakya. Investigations are on,” said a senior police officer.

Anurag Kumar told Express that the case is in the court and he didn’t want to comment on it. “The case is a year old and it is a result of infighting between the faculty members,” he said.

Durgappa, who was working in IISc since seven years, was sacked by a committee on the charges of sexual harassment in 2016. He later clarified that during a casual conversation with a female research student, he had remarked: “You are very beautiful and you look like actress Trisha”. She had filed a complaint to the management. He said that he was harassed by the management and also alleged discrimination and retribution.
