Artistes honoured

Dance critic Ashish Mohan Khokar’s ‘attendance’ year book 2016 award ceremony delighted the art community of Bengaluru. The award recognises contributions in various art forms.

At the award function held at Alliance Francaise at Vasant Nagar on Wednesday, there were performances by well-known Ottamthullal artists Suresh Kalamandalam and a Kathak duet by Pooja Bhatt and Tushar Bhatt. 


Former additional chief secretary Chiranjeevi Singh presented the awards to some of the winners. Choreographer Usha Venkateswar received the Maya Rao lifetime achievement award from B K Bhattacharya, former IAS officer. 


Dr Choodamani Nandagopal who has academic accomplishments in art history, received the Rukmini Devi award for significant contribution in dance. 


The Nataraja Kundale award for couples was given to Kathak artistes Pooja Bhatt and Tushar Bhat while Ottamthullal artists Suresh Kalamandalam received the Ramgopal award. 
Sruti Janaki Srinivasan, who won the Mohan Khokar award was not able to receive it as she was stuck due to the Chennai cyclone.
