BENGALURU: The Bengaluru traffic police have booked as many as 1,015 cases of drunken driving on Saturday night.
Traffic police officials said they conducted a special check on drunk driving on Saturday.
“We have also recommended to the transport department to suspend licenses of those caught driving under the influence of alcohol,” said a traffic police officer.
According to Bengaluru traffic police records, the number of drunk driving cases in the city increased from 55,138 in 2014 to 62,576 in 2015. Till October this year, 47,289 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.
“We have decided to intensify the drunk driving checks,” the official said, adding that extension of city’s nightlife deadline to 1 am has also led to increase in the number of such cases.
