180 Int’l films to be screened in City next year

With an aim to bring in World cinema to movie buffs, the ninth edition of  Bengaluru International Film Festival will be held in Bengaluru and Mysuru simultaneously this year.

BENGALURU: With an aim to bring in World cinema to movie buffs, the ninth edition of  Bengaluru International Film Festival will be held in Bengaluru and Mysuru simultaneously this year.
Around 180 films from nearly 50 countries under various categories will be screened at the event. Although the film festival isn’t strange to the city, this is the second time it is being held in Mysuru as well.

Films made by renowned filmmakers such as  Zoltan Fabri from Hungary, Ken Loach from UK, Asghar Farhadi from Iran, Kim Ki Duk from Korea, Cristian Mungiu from Romania among others will be screened at the festival.
The event will also host Asian, Indian and Kannada movie competitions. The list of films participating in the race will be announced in January next year.

Like in the previous edition, there will also be an additional International Jury for Kannada Cinema which will culminate in a special NETPAC (Network for Promotion of Asia and Pacific Cinema) award.
The inauguration of the festival will be held on the evening of February 2, at Bengaluru, while the closing ceremony and award distribution will be on the evening of February 9, at Mysuru. The regular screenings for the delegates will commence on February 3.
The screenings will be held at 11 screens of PVR Cinemas at Orion Mall, Rajajinagar, Bengaluru and four screens  of INOX Cinemas, Mall of Mysuru.
