Stray Dog Mauls Three-year-Old

BENGALURU: A week ago, an incident of 19-month old baby’s death following a stray dog attack was reported from Bharathinagar limits. On Monday, yet another case of stray dog bite has been reported from KR Puram limits.

Three -and-half year old Poorvi,daughter of Satish and Hema, was mauled by a stray dog, while she was playing at her grandmother’s house in Medahalli in KR Puram limits.

Hema, a homemaker, used to leave her daughter at her relatives place everyday, which is few streets away from her place. Even on Monday, she did the same, but by afternoon, she received the news of stray dog attack.

A rabid dog has attacked Poorvi, when she was playing on the streets, and has severly damaged her face.

Following the attack, Poorvi started to scream, which alerted her relatives who chased the dog and rushed Poorvi to Sathya Sai Orthopedics and Super Specialty Hospital at KR Puram.

Commenting on the incident, Hema, victim’s mother said, “Poorvi was bitten by a rabid dog at around 12.30 pm and she has been kept in the ICU. We are very much worried as her face is torn.”

Poorvi’s father Satish, who works as a lab assistant at a private firm said, “This area is filled with such stray dogs and all are worried about their safety.”

Dr Mahesh, Founder and Managing Director of the Hospital said when the girl was brought to the hospital, there were many bite marks on her face.

BBMP Responds

Dr Maheshwar Gowda, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, BBMP, said that they have deputed officials to know the details of the case and has also instructed the local animal husbandry inspector to carry out search operation to identify the dogs and isolate it.

“Stray dogs in the area will be screened. If they find any dog in rabid condition or terminally ill, it will be kept in isolation. Also, at the same time, animal birth control measures will be intensified here.”
