Stray dog whose litter was killed, dies

BENGALURU: AMMU, a stray dog whose eight puppies were killed by Ponnamma, died on Friday morning. She was buried in the city on Friday. Her litter of eight was mercilessly flung on to boulders by Ponnamma, wife of an ex-honorary flight lieutenant, on March 15.

Dr Akshay Prakash, a veterinary surgeon and trustee with Sarvodaya Sevabhavi Samstha, said Ammu was in an advanced stage of canine distemper.

“She had twitching nerves and had stopped taking food. She had become weak. We were giving her vitamin, drips and immunoglobulin,” said the surgeon.

“She was brought to Sarvodaya Sevabhavi Samstha on Wednesday when a volunteer, Nitin Bhatia, noticed that she showed symptoms of canine distemper,” said Vinay Moray who runs Sarvodaya Sevabhavi Samstha.
