Murder accused dies during police chase

BENGALURU: Two police personnel and a passerby sustained severe injuries while an accused died during a police chase in the city on Monday.A hot pursuit of a gang wanted for an attempt to murder case and a case under Arms Act turned violent when the gang members attacked the police.

Around 5.30pm on Monday, acting on a tip-off, police were chasing Dadiya Santhosh and his gang on Ullal Main Road near Jnanabharathi. Sources said the gang of six were speeding in a white Swift car when they hit a police jeep coming from the opposite direction. A motorist coming from behind was knocked down and sustained injuries. 


When the police caught up with the gang, one of the gang members Aisik attacked Mahalakshmi Layout police inspector with a machete. In self defence, the inspector fired at the accused, who died, police officials said. Another police personnel Roopa was also injured. 


Police inspector of Mahalakshmi Layout, B B Mallur, is being treated in a private hospital in the city. The rest of the accused are at large.
