BENGALURU: The BBMP will accept demonetised currency notes from the public towards property tax till November 14. Speaking to Express, M K Gunashekar, BBMP chairman, Standing Committee for Taxation and Finance, said after discussion with the Commissioner and other authorities concerned, they are now accepting old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes till November 14 and all ward offices have been intimated.
Gunashekar said with this, they are targeting tax defaulters. “We will also get revenue,” he said. This financial year the BBMP has so far collected Rs 1,650 crore in property tax against a target of Rs 3,000 crore.
