BENGALURU: A 23-year-old lift mechanic died when an automatic car parking lift collapsed on him on the ground floor of a residential apartment in Subramanyanagar on Tuesday. A police source said safety measures were not in place during the operation of the lift.
Dhananjay, a native of Hassan, was a resident of Peenya where he stayed with his family. He was an employee of Srushti Autotech and had been working there for five months.
Police said the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Dhananjay and two other mechanics were servicing the car parking lift at SMR Astra apartment in Gayatrinagar. The lift collapsed, trapping Dhananjay. He was killed immediately.
The other mechanics pulled him out and rushed him to a private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
A case of negligence has been filed against the service company who had installed the lift and was in charge of maintaining it.
