Researcher held with drugs worth Rs 45 crore

BENGALURU: Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths have arrested a research scientist from the city and seized a huge amount of drugs and more than `1 crore in cash.

In a joint operation by the NCB wings of Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, police arrested Venkat Rama, a resident of Hebbagodi near Electronics City and a research scientist in a reputed private chemical industry in Bengaluru.


Another person named Ravi Shankar Rao was also arrested in Miyapur, Hyderabad when Venkat had gone to Hyderabad to collect the contraband from Ravi on September 30 Police had seized 221 kg of Amphetamine. The drug is said to be worth `45 crore in the illicit market.
After taking him into custody, NCB officials raided Venkat’s house on the same day seized 30 grams of Amphetamine and `1,23,32,700.

Venkat’s wife, police arrested her too.
Later, police seized 10 kg of Amphetamine from a manufacturing lab in Bollarum in Hyderabad on October 1.
Police suspect that a big gang is involved in the racket and investigations are underway to nab them.
