BENGALURU: The Department of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka, in association with the Jaivik Krishik Society organised a two-day ‘Organics and Millets Mela’ over the weekend to create awareness about the benefits of organic and millet-based products.

Organised at Kengeri, the Mela had a lot to offer for millet enthusiasts. From traditional dishes to contemporary dishes, there was a lot of choice for visitors to pick from. This was organised as a prelude to the ‘International Organics and Millets Fair 2018’ scheduled from January 19 to 21 at Bangalore Palace.
Somshekar, MLA of Kengeri constituency said, “The idea of this mela was to increase awareness about the health benefits of millets. Millets are known as the super food, they are high in minerals such as Iron, Magnesium, Copper, Phosphorus, Zinc, Calcium and Potassium. Hence, they are the best food naturally available to combat numerous diseases along with the ill effects of refined and junk food.”

While the Millets Food Court at the mela offered  visitors a chance to taste dishes, including sweets made from millets, visitors also learnt to cook them. At the event, citizens showed keen interest in nutrient rich organic products like Ragi, Jowar, Bajra and the like.
