BENGALURU: In yet another suspected case of assault by a spurned youth, an engineering student suffered injuries to her shoulder and back after being stabbed in Annapoorneshwari Nagar on Thursday. The victim, a 20-year-old girl, was attacked by two masked men who came on a motorbike.
Manasa (name changed) was returning home after attending classes at her college around 4.30 pm when the incident occurred.
As soon as she was attacked, she raised an alarm and her assailants shoved her to the ground and fled from the spot. The girl, who suffered stab injuries on her arms, shoulder and back, was immediately rushed to a hospital by local residents. She is currently being treated at a private hospital.
According to police, the victim was being allegedly repeatedly harassed by a boy at her college and near her house, after she had rejected his advances.
Her proximity with another boy of the same college infuriated the accused and he warned her against pursuing a relationship with anybody except him. However, Manasa ignored his threats, said the police.
Recently, he collected her mobile number from her friends and harassed her by calling repeatedly. Three days ago too, he had called and threatened her from a telephone booth. Later, he had raised a hue and cry near her home.“The accused had also thrown beer bottles at her house to express his anger against Manasa rejecting his advances,” police added.
DCP (west) M N Anucheth said that they have received some clues about the assailants based on CCTV footage collected from the spot.“We have formed a special team to nab the accused and the investigation is on,” he said.A complaint has been registered at Chandra Layout police station in this connection. It can be recalled that in April this year, a woman was stabbed to death after she rejected a marriage proposal from one Girish.
