Three men who called the police helpline on July 7 saying they had planted a bomb in Cubbon Park were arrested on Sunday.

BENGALURU: Three men who made a bomb hoax call on July 7 were arrested on Sunday. The accused had called the police helpline saying they had planted a bomb in Cubbon Park and that it would explode in a few minutes.

The arrested have been identified as Baba (24), Zakir (22) and Khwaja (20), all residents of Ramanagaram. They are employees of a sericulture unit, said police.

Police said, “The accused had visited Murga Mohalla Dharga near Chintamani and then visited a relative’s house in Sulibele on July 7. On the same day, they stole two mobile phones. On their way back to Sulibele, the accused called the police helpline around 10.50pm from one of the stolen phones. They said the call was made for fun and that they had been drinking.”

Soon after police received the call, the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs arrived at the park for a thorough check, following which they found out that it was a hoax call.

Based on the call details records (CDR), police traced the three men and arrested the accused. Police have registered a case and sent the accused to judicial custody.
