BENGALURU: Residents of the city seem to be running out of patience over the apathetic treatment of lakes.Members of Namma Bengaluru have filed a police complaint in HAL limits against the menace caused by the unabated flow of debris, garbage and sewage into the Vibhutipura lake. Right under the nose of the civic authorities, the untreated filthy water has been flowing into the lake since long.

Talking to Express, Namma Bengaluru Foundation CEO Sridhar Pabbishetty said, “After consultation with veteran freedom fighter H S Doreswamy and other activists, we filed a formal complaint. The dumping of debris and garbage has been going on here for a long time now. This has invariably affected the health of the citizens living in and around. We will try and meet the officials of the Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority in the coming weeks to discuss the same.”

Recently, Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty had visited the lake for inspection and assured action on the ground. The two main demands of the people are -- fencing of the lake and installing of 2MLD sewage treatment plant.

“It is high time some action is taken by the government. We are living in a very unhygienic environment. There are mosquitoes because of the garbage and dirt. We are worried about the children who are vulnerable to diseases.”
